Fleet & Vehicles
Britz and Apollo are both thl brands working the same three airport depots, and much of a booking reads identically either way: a NZ$270 Queenstown location fee, wholly two-wheel-drive fleets, near-identical excluded-road lists down to the sealed Crown Range, and free cancellation at 61 days rising to the full rental on pickup day. Both also list every model as certified self-contained, including the entry pair at each whose toilet is a hideaway unit — Britz’s own copy calls its version ‘affixed portable’ or ‘fixed portable’, Apollo calls its version built-in or fixed, and only a permanently fixed toilet earns the green warrant. Check the card on the vehicle you are handed, not the model page.
The fleets split on equipment the same way, but only one says so in the model name. Every Apollo Euro model has a shower, hot water and diesel living-area heat; the Hitop and Endeavour have none of the three. Britz draws the identical line between four models and two, except that the Voyager sleeps four or five and sits on the poorer side of it — its own fleet note says to read the spec sheet rather than the berth count. Damage liability tracks the same two groups, at the same figures on both brands under the shared 2026–27 terms: NZ$5,000 per claim on the two lighter models and NZ$7,500 on the bathroom models, with High Road at NZ$55 and NZ$65 a day to remove it.
The separation that matters is the depot record. Britz’s three Google listings agree within 0.2: 4.2 at Auckland on 1,078 reviews, 4.2 at Christchurch on 1,241 and 4.4 at Queenstown on 442. Apollo reads 3.6 at Auckland and 3.6 at Christchurch, the only depot listings below 4.0 among the companies compared on this site, against 4.8 at Queenstown on 62. These are the same thl depots, and renters at Apollo’s Christchurch counter describe it being shared with sibling brands, with pickup running slower for it. Neither Trustpilot page settles the question: Britz has six reviews, and only about a quarter of Apollo’s 252 trace to New Zealand.

Who Should Choose Whom
Choose Britzif…
- •You are collecting at Auckland or Christchurch and want the steadier counter — Britz’s two main depots both read 4.2 on more than a thousand reviews each, where Apollo’s both read 3.6.
- •You want some idea of vehicle age — Britz dates the Wanderer, Odyssey and Navigator to 2023–2026 Laika and Etrusco builds, where Apollo states that year and layout are indicative and cannot be guaranteed.
Choose Apolloif…
- •You are booking the cheaper, showerless end of either fleet and care how the toilet is fitted: Apollo lists a built-in hideaway toilet in the Hitop and Endeavour, where Britz’s own copy calls the HiTop and Voyager’s version ‘affixed portable’ and ‘fixed portable’. Only a permanently fixed toilet earns the green warrant, so check the card either way.
- •Your party is six: Apollo’s largest Euro models sleep up to six, where Britz’s current New Zealand model list tops out at the five-berth Navigator. Cover does not tip it either way, because both brands set the same liability and High Road rates on equivalent models.
- •You are starting at Queenstown, the one depot where Apollo rates higher — though 4.8 on 62 reviews is thinner evidence than the 442 behind Britz’s 4.4.
